HOW DO OUR PATIENTS CHOOSE A HEART HOSPITAL?

They look for experience.

Studies in the New England Journal of Medicine confirm that hospitals with experience - high volumes of given procedures - have better patient outcomes.

Our experience speaks for itself -

  • We have the busiest heart catheterization center in the U.S, performing more than 19,000 procedures per year.
  • We perform more than 1,750 coronary artery bypass operations per year, with more than 50 percent performed on the beating heart, a significantly higher percentage than other hospitals in the region.
  • We have an unrivaled research capability our Cardiovascular Research Institute, dedicated to uncovering best practices in heart and vascular care, is part of the MedStar Research Institute, a regionally acclaimed hub of state-of-the-art research protocols and clinical trials.
  • We have the most experienced arrhythmia program throughout the region, offering new treatments for atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure, two of the most common and difficult-to-treat heart disorders.

We use leading edge tool and techniques  -

  • We apply CT scanning for heart redo surgery and cardiac MRI for heart remodeling to achieve pinpoint accuracy.
  • We leverage our expertise in diagnostic echocardiography to diagnose complicated heart conditions, such as valve disease and heart failure.

 Our expertise is unrivaled -

  • Our Cardiac Surgery Program, one the most progressive in the country, is a  referral center for some of the nation's most complex heart cases.
  • In bypass surgery we use the SPY Angiogram, a new technology to allow us to take pictures of the veins during surgery to ensure perfect bypass grafts.
  • We use the Maze Procedure, a new type of surgical procedure, to help correct atrial fibrillations (irregular heart rhythms).
  • We perform minimally invasive surgery (surgery through a small incision hole) to avoid fully opening a patients chest and use vein harvesting through endoscopic (small-incision)  surgery instead of making large cuts through the patients leg   both which produce quicker recovery times.

It is this expertise and experience in heart treatment and our reliance on outcomes-based protocols with more than 50,000 patients in our database, that enables our heart specialists to deliver outstanding care.
