
Within the United States, diseases of the kidney have become increasingly common. The National Kidney Foundation has determined that currently 360,000 patients must undergo some form of dialysis. 4,800 or more of those patients live in the Washington Metropolitan area.
Vascular Access Services of the Washington Hospital Center provides surgical services to many of the patients with end-stage renal disease in the metropolitan area. We offer the highest level of treatment in our state of the art surgical facilities. Our highly trained surgeons and staff specialize mostly on treatment of end-stage renal disease. A wide array of surgical procedures is provided, such as, Arterio Venous Fistula creation and graft insertions, permanent and temporary Hemodialysis catheter insertions, and Peritoneal dialysis catheter insertions. Advanced technological equipment such as IntraOperative Fluoroscopy (angiogram), ultrasound, laparoscopy and conventional X-Rays are utilized to reduce the risks and complications of surgery. The department is highly involved in the research and deployment of the latest technologically advanced products in the US marketplace.
