President John Sullivan presents the |
The Emergency Department is the last place anyone wants to end up. But when they do, patients can be assured they’ll get a warm welcome from Deondrea Taylor, emergency services technician. Deondrea provides such outstanding care for our patients, they and their families remember him by name. He’s regularly mentioned in follow-up phone calls and during patient appreciation breakfasts, and returning patients ask for him.
Deondrea’s patient first approach to his daily work is just one of the reasons why he is the recipient of the President’s Award for Personally Making a Difference.
ED Nursing Director Maryanne Szestak calls Deondrea the “go to” person to perform customer service rounds, especially during high census times. “Patients appreciate his warmth, sensitivity and genuine sense of caring,” says Maryanne.
He also elevates the professionalism of the ED staff. Deondrea is an instructor for Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) courses, and often assists his colleagues in attaining certification renewals. He’s also a volunteer member of Team Decon, the hospital’s emergency decontamination responders.
Deondrea takes his concern and caring beyond the walls of MedStar Washington Hospital Center. In January, he joined the MedStar Washington Hospital Center team at the NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo. He volunteered his time to provide blood pressure and blood sugar screenings.
Thank you, Deondrea, for personally making a difference to our patients and our community.
