Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

At Washington Hospital Center, our team of dedicated and experienced oral surgeons and orthodontists provide excellent care for the mouth, teeth and jaws. Our state-of-the-art facilities combined with our hospital-based treatment make us an excellent choice for oral and maxillofacial health needs.

Services provided include:

Routine dental care or nonsurgical emergency dental treatment is not provided.

The department is also active in the management of:

  • Facial pain
  • Facial nerve injury
  • Temporomandibular joint problems that are amenable to surgical therapy

The department is involved in clinical research in several areas including trauma, sleep apnea, and reconstructive surgery.

What does an Oral-Maxilofacial Surgeon do?

  • Replaces teeth using dental implants
  • Performs oral surgery, including teeth extractions
  • Diagnoses and removes a jaw, oral or facial cysts and pathologies
  • Performs oral and facial reconstructive surgery caused by trauma or disease
  • Repairs jaw joint(s) damaged by TMJ disease
  • Performs facial and jaw reconstruction following cancer surgery
