Conferences

Regularly scheduled conferences are an integral part of the training program.

Every Thursday, residents dedicate the morning hours to a variety of conferences scheduled at either MedStar Washington Hospital Center (1st, 3rd & 5th Thursdays) or MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (2nd & 4th Thursdays each month). The selection of conferences includes grand rounds, core topics, case reviews, best practice, morbidity & mortality and mock oral boards, among others. Residents are also required to prepare a limited number of didactic presentations each year of training to refine experience and develop comfort in public speaking.

Residents also participate in monthly journal club meetings. The meetings support the review of significant scholarly work; they encourage a greater understanding of research methodologies and statistical analysis; and they keep residents updated with respect to advances in medicine and their effects on emergency medicine practice.
