Grants and Donations

SW Jenna Crawley

As a recognized national model in the care of frail elders, the Medical House Call Program has served nearly 1,500 patients in Washington, D.C. since 1999. We are a part of the MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a not-for-profit hospital affiliated with MedStar Health, and we depend on the support of generous donors.

Grants, gifts and donations come from foundations, philanthropists, corporations, and other grateful individuals. These important sources of support supplement fee-for-service reimbursement from third parties, which does not cover our travel time or other coordination of care efforts.

Some of our current funding priorities are:

  • Development of current wireless and portable Electronic Medical Record
  • Emergency patient charity fund for medications, food, housing/utilities, transportation and other patient-specific needs
  • Social work services
  • Seed money for new geriatricians and nurse practitioners
  • Evaluation and research on economic and clinical outcomes of our care
  • Capital improvements

Nurse Practitioners

Previous grants, gifts and donations have allowed us to:

  • Establish a patient charity fund
  • Expand clinical services provided in the home
  • Implement a wireless and portable Electronic Medical Record
  • Establish staff morale and wellness activities
  • Establish partnerships with senior housing buildings
  • Increase service capacity through start-up funds for new nurse practitioners
  • Lease vehicles for clinicians to make house calls
  • Initiate economic and policy research on the House Call model of care
  • Assist in the development of House Call programs around the nation
  • Plan professional development activities in geriatrics
  • Assess the marketplace and plan future program and reimbursement models

Grants, gifts, and donations to the Medical House Call Program are made through the Washington Hospital Center Foundation, and are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS regulations.
