We understand that any diagnosis of cancer causes concern for related family members. At Washington Cancer Institute, we can offer you the support you need.
Our new clinical cancer genetics service is a joint initiative involving MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s Washington Cancer Institute, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.
Tiffani DeMarco, MS, is the genetic counselor and clinical coordinator of our program. She has nine years of experience in counseling individuals who are at high risk for hereditary cancers.
Our cancer genetics service provides comprehensive pre- and post-test genetic counseling to patients and family members. If you are seeking information and support concerning your personal risks and/or family history of any type of cancer, you can turn to our highly trained staff for answers. You will learn about the option of genetic testing for cancer risk along with information regarding cancer screening and prevention trials. You will also learn about how this information may impact your relatives’ risks for developing cancer.
This is an interdisciplinary program that may involve referrals and consultations with physicians from several different medical specialties. Patients may also be evaluated by a geneticist and/or medical oncologist.
Ms. DeMarco is available to answer questions, identify resources and provide guidance. You may also call (202) 687-2733 for further information or to make an appointment.
