Mark Hathaway, MD, MPH

Dr. Hathaway is director of Ob/Gyn outreach services for Women's and Infants' Services. He oversees the collaboration between MedStar Washington Hospital Center and the Unity Health Care organization, to provide medical services to traditionally underserved communities throughout Washington, DC. Dr. Hathaway leads a team of obstetricians/gynecologists and midwives who divide their time between MedStar Washington Hospital Center and the Unity community health care clinics.

Dr. Hathaway is assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and associate clinical professor of health care services at the George Washington University Medical Center.

Dr. Hathaway is a dedicated advocate interested in advancing reproductive health policies, family planning strategies and the development of sound public health policies.

Training, Education and Research
Prior to medical school, Dr. Hathaway served as an agricultural extensionist with the United States Peace Corps in Paraguay, South America. He received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. Dr. Hathaway completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. In 2006, he earned a master of public health degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.

Dr. Hathaway's research interests include family planning strategies / system improvements and immediate post-partum IUD insertion.

Honors, Awards and Society Membership
Dr. Hathaway is the recipient of the MedStar Washington Hospital Center Community Service Award and the American Medical Association / Glaxo Wellcome, Inc. Leadership Award. He was also named in the 2005-2006 Best Doctors in America list.

Dr. Hathaway is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Public Health Association and the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals. He is an honorary board member of Mary's Center for Maternal and Child Care, Inc., in Washington, DC. Dr. Hathaway also serves on several committees for Unity Health Care, including the Health Care / Health Right Quality Assurance Committee, the Health Care / Health Right Pharmacology and Therapeutics Committee and the Adolescent Task Force. He is program director for the Title X (family planning) and Project WISH programs.
