Chairman's Message

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in Washington Hospital Center's Surgery Residency Program. We are proud to offer an exceptional training opportunity in the largest academic medical center in Washington, D.C. Our program is built on outstanding clinical experience complemented by a carefully structured didactic curriculum, which allows our talented and committed residents to mature into excellent surgeons, able to face any professional challenge.


The strength of our program lies in the combination of extensive clinical volume with a committed teaching faculty, who cultivate a close relationship with the residents. This allows our residents to take full advantage of the faculty members' vast clinical knowledge and skills in an environment that is both challenging and supportive. We are proud that our department has trained generations of exceptional young surgeons who go on to successful academic or clinical practices.

The Department of Surgery at Washington Hospital Center is looking at the future with excitement. We are expanding our clinical and research activities in many important areas, including cancer, minimally invasive surgery and vascular surgery. We will continue to build on our history of providing outstanding surgical education through our general surgery residency and multiple, well-established fellowships.
