Post-Surgical Instructions
Recovery from transplant surgery is different for each patient. Your physician and nurses will give you detailed, written instructions on how to care for yourself after surgery. They will discuss your recovery process with your loved ones.
What you can expect after your transplant:
- After discharge, you are initially seen in the
transplant clinic at frequent intervals, to monitor renal/pancreas function
and levels of immunosuppressive medications.
- As you recover, patients are also seen by their
nephrologists.
- Laboratory data and transplant status are determined
in real time, and appropriate same-day adjustments are prescribed. Our nurses
monitor the patient's vital signs, labs, X-rays, medications and changes in
emotional well-being to create a regimen of individualized care.
- The goal is to return patients to a state of physical and emotional health as quickly as possible. The transplant clinic features doctor-led care and provides the services of three full-time registered nurses.
