Experience

Experience is critical when choosing a treating oncologist.  At the Thyroid Institute and Thyroid Cancer Center at Washington Cancer Institute at Washington Hospital Center, the three primary treating physicians—

--have dedicated their careers to the study and treatment of thyroid cancer and thyroid disease.

Together, these three physicians have created and lead an experienced, multidisciplinary team, and are referred cases by endocrinologists and oncologists from all over the United States and the world.

Leadership in the Field
The two principal and most prestigious professional societies of physicians who deal with thyroid disease are the American Thyroid Association and the Endocrine Society.  Both Dr. Burman and Dr. Wartofsky have served as President of the American Thyroid Association and Dr. Wartofsky was President of the Endocrine Society.

Research and Publications
In addition, each of these three physicians have published hundreds of articles on thyroid cancer and thyroid disease, and continue to publish five to ten manuscripts or abstracts  a year on thyroid cancer and disease.

They also serve as faculty members at Georgetown University Hospital, the George Washington University Medical Center, Howard University Medical Center and/or the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, teaching medical students best practices in the treatment of these conditions.
