What should I expect?
- This procedure is performed under general anesthesia.
- After entering the chest, the lower portion of the esophagus is identified. The lower esophageal sphincter and the musculature of the lower one-third of the esophagus are divided.
- Patients stay in the hospital approximately two days.
- Regular diet is gradually resumed. Most patients fully recover within six weeks.
