Facilities

MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s Division of Interventional Radiology offers patients the comfort, quality and precision of modern facilities and advanced equipment. Interventional Radiology includes two bi-plane and three single plane state-of-the-art angiography suites. Bi-plane technology provides significantly better visualization of internal structures, making procedures safer and faster. The latest flat panel angiography suite was commissioned in January, 2010, and has 3-D roadmap and needle guidance, and navigation capabilities.

For deep venous thrombosis removal, we use an AngioJet mechanical thrombectomy catheter, which breaks and sucks the clot out, along with EKOS ultrasound guided thrombolysis to dissolve the clot faster, sometimes within 24 hours.

For varicose veins, we are one of the few locations in the nation’s capital to offer both laser and radiofrequency ablation therapy (RFA).

All interventional radiology patients are post-operatively monitored in a dedicated eight-bed recovery room. This room is staffed by highly trained personnel to safely and comfortably recover patients.
