Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery

Tumors and other abnormalities of the skull base can now be treated at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center through a minimally invasive approach using instruments and endoscopes inserted through the nasal cavity.  Pituitary tumors in particular are very amenable to the endoscopic approach.

These skull base lesions were historically treated with large incisions across the top of the head or on the face which could produce cosmetically unfavorable results.  Using an endoscopic approach, patients have shorter recovery time, lower risk, and better cosmetic outcome.  Endoscopic skull base surgery is performed through a team approach by a neurosurgeon and an ear, nose, and throat surgeon.

If you think that you may be a candidate for endoscopic skull base surgery, please contact our office at 202-877-6733 to make an appointment.
