Washington Cancer Institute is one of the few centers in the country that provides a new type of treatment for Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma, also known as mycosis fungoides.
Rotational Total Skin Electron Therapy (RTSEI) and static Total Skin Electron Irradiation (TSEI) are advanced approaches to treating this skin disorders. During TSEI, a patient's entire skin is treated with low-energy electrons. This radiation penetrates very superficially, protecting internal organs and other structures.
The patient stands in a small treatment box as the machine revolves around the body to deliver radiation. Patients undergo TSEI on an outpatient basis, usually for three to four sessions per week for a few months. A typical treatment takes 30 minutes. Like all radiation treatment, TSEI is personalized based on each patient's condition.
