Oncology Nurses

Our oncology nurses specialize in treating patients with cancer. Our chemotherapy nurses are chemotherapy/biotherapy certified, known as an ONS (Oncology Nurse Certification) designation. They took special courses and training to provide nursing services to cancer patients. Thirty percent of our nurses also have advanced certifications in oncology, known as OCN certification.

Specialized oncology nursing

Our oncology nurses specialize in different areas of cancer treatment. If you are a surgical patient, you will have a surgical oncology nurse. If you are undergoing chemotherapy treatment, your nurse will be a chemotherapy nurse. If you are taking part in radiation treatment, then your nurse trained in radiation nursing.

This specialization is important, because different parts of cancer treatment can create different symptoms and challenges for each patient. Your nurses are trained in managing these issues and have experience in helping patients. Our patients find that this experience and concern improves the patient care experience.

Medical oncology nurses

If you are undergoing chemotherapy, you should know that our medical oncology nurses often act as patient navigators, by providing help with:

  • Financial concerns — handling pre-approvals, health insurance issues
  • Symptom management care — helping you manage your symptoms and referring you to outside help if needed
  • Patient education and treatment care — our goal is well-informed patients, so they can make the best decisions about their cancer treatment needs
