Surgery is an exciting field at the intersection of science, service, and technical expertise. I have particular interest in laparoscopic general surgery, surgical oncology, and hepatobiliary surgery. My other academic interests include healthcare economics and applications of information technology. Training at MedStar Washington Hospital Center affords interaction with a diversity of ethnic, cultural, and social backgrounds. Caring for the patient population served by the hospital has been personally fulfilling and academically enriching. Outside of the hospital, I enjoy cycling and running, as well as automotive mechanics.

I chose surgery because I like the acuity of the problems, being able to make a difference in someone's life in a short period of time, and I love the hands-on approach. I find patient management immensely gratifying - to see someone who has a problem, evaluate them, and take specific, discrete steps to improve their life. I also love that I'm finally using the knowledge gained over my many prior years of education and employment prior to residency. I know that there are many years left to go in my training, but I appreciate my position as the front-line physician this year. I have the privilege of being the patient's most frequent contact and someone they can come to know and trust with their care. The best piece of advice I have been given is to learn something from everyone I meet - patients, nurses, other physicians, and other hospital staff. I learn so much every day, and every day I realize how much I have yet to learn.
