Dr. Jamie Litvack

Jamie R. Litvack, MD, MS, is a board-certified otolaryngologist and sinus specialist in the Department of Otolaryngology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. She provides specialty care for diseases of the sinuses and surrounding structures (eyes, brain and skull base), in addition to comprehensive medical and surgical care for a broad range of common ear, nose and throat problems. She has a special interest in patients’ quality of life issues when they suffer from chronic sinusitis. as well as the outcomes of sinus surgery. Dr. Litvack has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals on both subjects.

Additional Training, Education & Research

Dr. Litvack completed her rhinology fellowship at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary and Harvard Medical School in advanced diseases of the sinuses, paranasal sinuses and skull base, under the mentorship of Dr. Ralph Metson.

She performed her clinical residency and clinician researcher training at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Or. Dr. Litvack extended her training an additional two years, to study quality of life in patients with sinusitis and outcomes of sinus surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Timothy Smith, and with extramural funding from the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Litvack earned her medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa., and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She has a Master’s of Science degree from Dartmouth, where she studied ways to improve the quality and delivery of health care and how to provide more patient-centered care. She also attended Dartmouth as an undergraduate, and majored in Religion.

She has authored and/or co-authored several original research articles on quality of life issues in patients with sinusitis and the outcomes of sinus surgery in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented her findings at several national meetings.

Honors, Awards & Society Memberships

Dr. Litvack is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, American Rhinologic Society, American Medical Association and the Washington Metropolitan Otolaryngology Head & Neck Society. She serves as a committee member for the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and the American Rhinologic Society and is a reviewer for multiple Otolaryngology journals.

Practice Focus

Dr. Litvack has clinical expertise in the medical and surgical management of difficult to treat chronic sinusitis, revision sinus surgery and image-guided (computer-aided) surgery. She treats benign tumors of the sinuses, performs endoscopic repair of CSF leaks (repairs of spinal fluid leaks), endoscopic orbital (Graves orbitopathy) and lacrimal surgery (blocked tear ducts), and minimally invasive skull-base surgery.
