| Washington Hospital Center Tops on U.S.News & World Report July 11, 2008 |
National Rehabilitation Hospital Tops in Rehab Rankings Hospital Center remains one of the 20 best heart hospitals in the country and leads the area in the number of specialty categories ranked, this according to the 19th annual list of “America’s Best Hospitals” published by U.S.News & World Report. National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH), the Hospital Center’s sister hospital, also took top ranking in the region in the list as the best rehabilitation facility in the area. Washington Hospital Center and NRH were the only two District hospitals ranked in the annual national listing. Of the 5,453 hospitals considered, only 170 scored high enough to be listed in one of 16 specialty categories. Scores depended on such things as whether facilities had advanced technology such as robotic surgery and experience based on the number of procedures performed in a specialty area. In addition to being named among the country’s best in cardiac services and cardiac surgery, the Hospital Center was also named as a top hospital in three other specialty areas: Geriatrics, Endocrinology and Respiratory Disorders. “It is wonderful to be awarded this recognition,” said Washington Hospital Center President James F. Caldas. “Those of us who work here every day know that we make a difference in the lives of the thousands of patients were serve each year. To have other medical professionals acknowledge us in this way, that is a true honor.” National Rehabilitation Hospital consistently ranks among the top rehabilitation facilities. It is known for cutting edge research and innovations to help patients regain abilities lost to injury or illness. “This is great news,” said NRH founder, President and Chief Executive Officer Edward A.
