Interventional Radiology
Washington Hospital Center SuperStar 2008
My name is Shelly Smith. I have been with the Hospital Center for six years. I became interested in Washington Hospital Center after reading the Hospital Center’s Vision and Mission statements. I realized the exceptional people at the Hospital Center shared my own values and vision, about being a part of a team that strives to provide the very best in patient care services. While working here, I have been taking advantage of the many opportunities for professional growth. I started out as a cardiac nurse, and now I am working as a procedural nurse in one of the most exciting areas of nursing, Interventional Radiology. As an IR nurse, my learning is endless, and I am able to strengthen my clinical judgment and critical thinking skills. I really enjoy working in the Interventional Radiology department because of the daily challenges my position offers.
In 2008, I was selected as one of the Hospital Center SuperStars. This was a very humbling experience for me. It meant the world to me, because I knew the patients I care for recognized they had received a true “Patient First” experience while under my care.
One of my professional goals is further my career as a nurse. Choosing Washington Hospital Center was a very important decision, because the Hospital Center has a commitment towards educational growth. The attractive tuition reimbursement and clinical ladder offered to nurses are the best in this region. I do believe in my hospital, and I am grateful that I work here.
