Certified Diabetes Educator
Washington Hospital Center SuperStar 2009
Jennifer C. Smith is a Certified Diabetes Educator who has been with Washington Hospital Center since 2006. I was attracted to the Hospital Center because of the opportunity to specialize in diabetes education with a knowledgeable team of physicians, nurses and dietitians. I began my career as a dietitian, with the goal of educating people with diabetes. After completing the requirements to be certified as a Diabetes Educator, I looked for opportunities at the hospital because of its status as one of the nation’s best hospitals.
My job offers me the ability to provide people with information that will help them live healthy lives. The assistance the Hospital Center provides to attend continuing education to further my understanding of diabetes, means I can provide the most up- to- date education for all my clients.
When I was selected as a Washington Hospital Center SuperStar, I was so excited, and to be recognized by one of my clients was the best feeling! Hearing that I have made a difference in someone’s life because of the information I was able to share with them means the world to me. I love to see the light bulb of understanding go on when working with my clients.
Washington Hospital Center has some of the nation’s best physicians, many specialties, and some of the most up- to- date technology for treatment. As a teaching hospital, there are always opportunities to learn something new and expand within your own field. I also feel that the hospital does a great job rewarding each employee’s commitment to work, whether it’s recognition on a birthday with a meal ticket, financial assistance to aid with furthering education, excellent health insurance, or discounts for ballgame tickets. Each of these things shows the Hospital Center wants the best care for their patients, by providing many benefits that enhance the work environment for employees.
