Anesthesiology
The department of anesthesiology provides anesthesia for surgical and obstetrical patients, provides consultation for and evaluation of airway and respiratory problems, and is responsible for the medical direction of the post-anesthesia recovery rooms and the patient holding areas in the operating rooms.
The department provides support for:
- General and Cardiovascular Surgery
- High-risk Obstetrics
- Orthopaedics
- Neurosurgery
- Plastic Surgery
- Heart, Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation
- Urology
- Burn Surgery
- Ear, Nose and Throat
- Ophthalmology
- Trauma
- Surgical Oncology
On request, it also provides special services in radiology, psychiatry, gastroenterology and cardiology.
Special Services
The department operates a Pain Management Service with a multidisciplinary approach for consultation and treatment of acute and chronic pain problems secondary to cancer, degenerative illness and injury on a referral basis. A complete range of therapeutic and diagnostic nerve blocks are available, as well as epidural analgesia for post-operative pain management. The department has at least two anesthesiologists in the hospital at all times in addition to the two Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists to provide round-the-clock, in-house anesthesia services for the operating room and labor & delivery. Additional anesthesiologists are available on short notice if further support is necessary.
