Women's and Infants' Services at MedStar Washington Hospital Center delivers more than 4,500 babies and perform over 2,400 gynecological/gynecologic-oncology surgeries each year.

The Department reflects the graduate medical education commitment of the MedStar Washington Hospital Center. We feature an Ob/Gyn residency; fully approved and highly sought after. In addition, we have fellows in advanced training in gynecologic oncology and urogynecology. The commitment to education includes programs teaching attending physicians from all over the United States in minimally invasive surgical procedures.

December 15, 2012 – The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine has recognized the MWHC Perinatal Center as an Accredited Ultrasound Practice. The accreditation has been granted for the three year period from Dec. 15, 2012 to Dec. 15, 2015.

October 26, 2012 - MedStar Washington Hospital Center was presented with the regional 2012 Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace Award by the D.C. and Maryland Breastfeeding Coalitions. Click on the link to read the press release.

October 15, 2012 – MedStar Women’s Specialty Center at Chevy Chase opened its doors to patients. You can consult with some of the top experts in women’s health in such specialties as Cardiology, Breast Health, Endocrinology, Urogynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Medical Genetics, and Midwifery. October 1, 2012 – MedStar Women’s Services at Mitchellville opened a new location at the Mitchellville Plaza, 12158 Central Avenue, Mitchellville, MD. To schedule an appointment, call 301-430-5880.

April 16, 2012 – The Midwives of MedStar began seeing patients in The Perinatal Center located in the Physicians Office Building 108 South at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Our midwives are experts in women's obstetrical and reproductive health care needs, and the close proximity with The Perinatal Center provides convenience to the highest quality prenatal evaluation and care. February 9, 2012 - The Perinatal Center relocated its main office from Physicians Office Building 3800 North to its expanded space in Physicians Office Building 108 South.

January 25, 2012 - The National Association For Continence (NAFC) has designated the National Center for Advanced Pelvic Surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, as a Center of Excellence (COE): Continence Care for Women. Drs. Cheryl Iglesia, Robert Gutman, Andrew Sokol and Amy Park are the principal physicians in this COE.

July 18, 2011 - The US News & World Report ranked MedStar Washington Hospital Center among the "2011-2012 Best Hospitals" for its program in Gynecology for the second consecutive year.

July 11, 2011 - The National Center for Advanced Pelvic Surgery relocated its main office from Physicians Office Building 2100 North to its new expanded space in Physicians Office Building 405 South.
