The Center for Ethics program at MedStar Washington Hospital Center was created in 1982 by Dr. John J. Lynch. As the role of the ethics committee increased and the need for an organized department became clear, the department separated from pastoral care. The Center was separated from the Department of Pastoral Care in 1992 and its founding director was Janicemarie K. Vinicky, PhD.
