Bone and Tissue Grafting

Bone and tissue grafting is sometimes necessary during reconstructive oral surgery.

Why would I need a bone graft?

During reconstructive jaw surgery, a bone graft might be necessary to strengthen bone structure. Bones from the ribs, hips and skull can be grafted to improve the chances for the bone to heal properly. Your oral surgeon may elect to use other kinds of graft material during reconstructive jaw surgery.

What is tissue grafting?

Occasionally, your oral surgeon may move gum tissue from one part of your mouth to the other, to reshape the appearance of the gum line. Your oral surgeon will explain the full procedure to you.
