What is a Trauma/Acute Care surgeon?
Trauma/Acute Care surgeons are physicians who have completed residency training in general surgery and fellowship training in trauma/surgical critical care. The trauma/acute care surgeon is responsible for the initial evaluation and resuscitation of the patient as well as surgery. He or she coordinates care with other specialists, if necessary. The attending trauma surgeon leads the trauma team, which typically includes nurses, resident physicians and support staff.
Our surgeons also have expertise in a broad variety of non-traumatic surgical emergencies, including emergency appendectomies, hernias, cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) and intestinal obstruction, among others.
