Peritoneal Surface Malignancy Program
Peritoneal surface malignancies are cancers that grow or spread along the peritoneal surfaces, the tissues inside the abdomen. Generally the cancer originates inside the appendix, colon or pancreas, which then spreads into the rest of the abdomen.
Advances in treatment and care
Historically, a patient diagnosed with peritoneal surface malignancy generally had a very poor prognosis. However, the director of our program, Paul Sugarbaker, MD, a surgical oncologist, has been researching the most effective treatments against these types of cancer for more than 30 years. Now, patients with these types of cancers can often be cured.
