Trilogy™ - Radiation Oncology
The Trilogy™ Linear Accelerator is one of the most sophisticated radiation treatment devices available.
MedStar Washington Hospital Center was the first hospital in Washington, D.C., to add this state-of-the-art treatment device to its cancer treatment services.
Benefits of Trilogy radiation therapy
The Trilogy is one of the most advanced linear accelerators available today. The Trilogy can be used for delivery of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT).
Trilogy allows us to treat with external beam radiotherapy with enhanced capabilities that include:
- Flexibility – Our team of experienced radiation oncologists and specialists can customize your treatment to target many different types of cancers, in many different locations.
- Accuracy – Trilogy's radiation beams can conform to the exact shape of the tumor with a higher degree of accuracy than past linear accelerators.
- Early Treatment – Trilogy can treat smaller lesions than other linear accelerators, so we can treat cancers at earlier stages, when the chances for recovery are higher.
- Precision – Trilogy works along with special technologies that synchronize radiation beams with the way a patient breathes and moves. This helps target tumors more precisely, while also sparing healthy surrounding tissue.
- Intelligence – Trilogy uses Image Guidance (IGRT) with cone beam computed tomography (CT) and kilovoltage imaging (KV) for improved target localization.
- Speed – Trilogy delivers radiation 60 percent faster than traditional linear accelerators, which enhances patient's comfort and improves accuracy.
- Fewer side effects – Trilogy's precision spares as much healthy tissue as possible, which results in fewer side effects.
