Spot the Skin Cancer
Is it a mole or melanoma?
One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. Melanoma is not only the most deadly skin cancer, but the leading cause of death from skin disease. If caught early, it's almost always curable.
At MedStar Washington Hospital Center, our multidisciplinary team of skin cancer specialists is made up of dermatologists, surgeons and medical oncologists. No wonder we're the region's first choice in diagnosing and treating skin cancer.
As a patient, you will benefit from:
- Specialized technology—called a dermatoscope—aids our experts in analyzing moles microscopically. This equipment increases our ability to diagnose cancer early by 20%, reducing the need for surgery later
- Digital photographs taken to monitor suspicious moles or skin blemishes so any changes can be addressed quickly
- Access to a team of specialists called dermato-oncologists, who are specially trained to understand and treat skin cancer
If you have a suspicious mole, have had severe sunburns or have had a close relative with skin cancer, don't wait. Call 202-877-DOCS (3627) to make an appointment.
