Course Information

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Apply principles learned regarding the role of inflammation and adipokines to better recognize those at risk for and treat patients with diabetes in pregnancy

• Consult appropriate subspecialists to create an integrated team that will deliver optimal care for the diabetic pregnant patient

• Evaluate the pros and cons of pharmacologic options and glucose monitoring strategies. Furthermore, recognize the pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic type, dose and frequency for the treatment of diabetes in pregnancy and apply this information to individualize patient care

• Identify patients at highest risk for diabetic embryopathy by recognizing the mechanisms that lead to the abnormal fetal development and perform appropriate studies to make the diagnosis
